What this session will cover

Foreign entrants should plan exits from African markets in advance, considering project end, asset disposal, and political factors. Proactive planning, risk identification, and expectation management are crucial to minimize disputes and harmonize exits.

The panel will discuss well-planned, successful exit strategies from markets in Southern and Francophone Africa, as well as those that led to (perhaps) unnecessary disputes and delayed exits. They will reflect on these experiences and highlight the importance of thorough planning, risk identification, and the consideration of all stakeholders’ perspectives—including foreign investors, foreign governments, local partners, and local governments—when developing and implementing exit strategies.
