What this session will cover

Through two different panels, this session will explore trends in life sciences disputes and intellectual property (IP) disputes. We will explore the challenges being presented by disputes in these areas and the innovations being adopted by different dispute resolution procedures (such as court proceedings and international arbitration) to meet those challenges.

Panel 1: Innovation in the resolution of intellectual property disputes—our panel will discuss innovations in the resolution of IP disputes, exploring recent developments in practice and procedure and their potential impact, including developments in the formulation of remedies.

Confirmed speakers: Emma Armitage (Moderator, Partner, Addleshaw Goddard), Mr Justice Birss, Emma Campbell (Sky), Emma Himsworth QC (One Essex Court), Mark Paton (European IP Counsel, Canon Europe) and David Rose (Partner, Mishcon de Reya).

Panel 2: Trends and challenges in the resolution of disputes in the life sciences sector—our panel will discuss trends in the types of disputes arising in the Life Sciences sector. The panel will then go on to discuss the suitability of different dispute resolution procedures for resolving these disputes and address the question of whether they are ‘fit for purpose’ or need to evolve.

Confirmed speakers: Gregory K. Bell (Group Vice President and Life Sciences Practice Leader, Charles River Associates), Paul Key QC (Essex Court Chambers), Celina McGregor (Senior Counsel, AstraZeneca), Antonio Suarez-Martinez (Assistant General Counsel, GlaxoSmithKline) and Jon Tweedale (Moderator, Partner, Addleshaw Goddard LLP).

Registration and catering: Registration and networking will commence at 13:00 pm, in time for a prompt 13:30 pm start to the session. Afternoon tea will be served at the end of the session.
