What this session will cover

London also plays a key role in the offshore world, and vice versa. This session will bring together premier offshore law firms with leading trust companies to examine the key issues often faced by trustees and others working with high net worth individuals from around the world.

The session will comprise a panel discussion on common trustee issues including:

  • Why the offshore jurisdiction is necessary, especially when there might be English residents and domiciled beneficiaries
  • Beneficiary rights of information
  • Trustee/beneficiary disputes
  • Tax planning, advice and decision making – coordinating the different laws
  • Beddoes applications
  • HMRC Requirement to correct
  • Protector issues

The aim is to show why a client might need both offshore lawyers and London lawyers and how, in the industry, we can work together.

Our panelists are drawn from two leading trust companies and three premier offshore firms in the area of trusts and private client all used to working collaboratively with onshore lawyers to come up with solutions which may span both offshore and onshore jurisdictions.

Confirmed speakers: Ed Drummond (Partner, Bedell Cristin, Jersey), Paul Hodgson (Managing Director Butterfield, Guernsey), Daniel Martineau (Executive Chairman, Summit Trust Geneva), Morven McMillan (Partner, Maples, Cayman) and Robert Shepherd (Partner, Mourant, Guernsey).
